Hey everyone,

This is Brent here...

I have some news to share with you as friends, fans of the band or anyone else who has supported us over the past three and a half years.......

At the age of 16 I started losing my hearing; it began as a mild hearing loss which didn't overly alarm me or my specialists. Over the past six years however, there has been an uncertain yet steady decline in my ability to hear. At the age of 19 my hearing got to the point that I needed to wear hearing aids. Since then, the deterioration has slowed but is still steadily eating away at my ability to hear all frequencies. Recently I have started to lose hearing in frequencies which up until six months ago have been good. These frequencies are important for speech recognition and general functioning in everyday life. I have seen several different hearing specialists over this time and no one has been able to diagnose a real definite reason for the loss. One of the obvious guesses at a cause is loud music and the fact I’ve been playing the drums almost everyday for about 11 years.

My audiologist has told me of patients who are 90 years old, fought in wars and worked coal mines for most of their lives and yet still have better hearing than me. Some people have resilient ears, others do not and these inconsistencies in the tolerance of the human ear are very hard to measure. I haven’t played the drums without wearing ear plugs for six years now, yet still my hearing has degenerated. There is a chance that I was just born with a genetic predisposition for hearing loss, something beyond the damage that drumming can cause. After CT scans, MRI scans and 30-plus hearing tests, my specialists are still very unsure as to what is happening. However, there is a possibility that I have a low tolerance to noise exposure which is causing my ears to give up. Whether or not drumming has been the sole culprit I am told my exposure to loud music could be aggravating and accelerating the loss.

Sadly, the only way to know if drumming is inducing or aggravating the loss is to plainly stop playing loud music for 12 months - which in turn has made me decide to step down from Cut Off Your Hands for the next year. This decision represents much thought and was incredibly difficult for me to make. The concept of life outside of Cut Off saddens me; we have all devoted so much of ourselves to make this band work. I’m now thoroughly addicted to making music and it hurts to know I wont be sharing it with the guys I have enjoyed it with over the past many years. I don’t feel good about it but I believe it’s the right thing for me to do.

It is uncertain what the future will bring for me and Cut Off. I hope with all my heart that I can return to playing with the band but only time can let that be known.I'm not writing this to ask for sympathy or pity, we all have shit going on in our lives; I merely want to say that I’m not giving up on Nick, Phil or anyone else who has shown support for what we have been doing. I believe in what we have done so far and I would still very much be apart of it if I had my own way.

By no means is this a disintegration or ending for the band. Thereare many more songs that need to be shared with you and we are all very excitedfor what 2009 has to offer.

I GOT KILLERS TICKETS. im so happy. i am as keen as a green bean.

i got tickets to the urbis design weekend. its very cool, its where you go to different galleries and view collections of designers, like lonely hearts, trelise, zambesi, karen walker, im really looking forward to it and i hope to be inspired to start sewing again

i might be going to la clique, its this burlesque // cabaret show thats r18 (oohhhhscandal) but i can go with an adult so im dragging my mother along in pursuit of a taste of cabaret, watch this space

saturday night. dearlordy it was nuts. i had sally and alex over, alex came over a lot later. sally and me got scared of these guys in deck chairs on the road and hid in a wall and waited for alex but then we had to brave them and we hid behind a car and ran back to my house. then alex came and we went round in the dark, it was great. and we took sugar replacement pills and everything was going to fast. then we decided to have an improptu sleepover and deborah had a spazz and ordered them to leave so they had to go home. shizer minelli it was a mission and a half but it was great

i cleaned my room. i can see my floor and i cleared my shelves and altogether its a lot nicer. i'm such a hoarder though, it took me aaages

i took my first set of film for photography, it was SO COOL, i've got some prints and proof sheets, ill put them up here if i can, its black and white film and i'm happy with the results

my hair still won't go into a headscarf. its a poo.

so i got a new layout,
i felt it needed to include some polaroids, so i just grabbed some photos of mine and turned them into polaroids. im forever changing my mind about my blog so it will probably change again soon as i want something floral...ill sort something out

christmas was kind of awesome this year.
christmas always is cool but this year it just seemed particularly radd
i got this amazing entirely leather man satchel for college next year and i totally adore it.when i first saw it i fell in love with it but the price tag was serious. buti got it for christmas and i was over the moon, it was my my main present and oh i love it. the photos really dont do it justice

from my sister i got the new cut off your hands cd - you and i, as well as their entire back catalouge. goodlord they are just fantastic. i also found out my cousin danny knows them well and i actually happydanced so much, im going to try and meet // get a autorgraph or photo or something from them. their music is amazing and i have been listening to their ep's and demo cds all the time since. unfortunately the photo is super blurry but yeah.
from deborah i got this fashion encyclopedia called 'fashion now two'
it sounds lame but ohmygosh its fantastic. the book is really thick and it has in it
'160 of i-D magazines favourite fashion designers from around the world'
it also has a small interview with each designer and photos of their work and their story. its kind of like my bible.
i got a few other things
- ipod speakers (WOO)
- i got my vintage white super poofy petticoat officially, im thinking doc martens meets sweetheart
- a few clothes and vouchers etc
- some really pretty false lashes
- my aunties partner, peter, works for Yves Saint Laurent and he is very high up with their make up thingy in new zealand so they always have lots of products and luckily i normally get them. so i got a bag of amazing goodies including liquid liner, touche brilliance lip lacquer, young sexy lovely eau de toilette and some other gorgeous things
the photo is a tad awful and doesn't give the skirt justice but oh well. look in a previous blog to see one of the outfits i incorporated it into. its so much fun

in the morning we had our annual cigar brunch with my grandomther and two uncles. we sit around and eat bagels with salmon, capers and cream cheese and drink coffee and my uncles have cigars. its fantastic
this year we hosted the family christmas dinner at our house and all my cousins- danny and his wife sarah aka toots, catherine aka ese, tim - who flew in from nyc, david - who works as a bouncer in nightclubs and told me he was doing security for bdo too so he'd give me a shout out, chris - who was in oz but we called him, (the carlsen cousins) came over as well as my three aunties, joe, jill and anne and it was just so cool to see everyone.

today (boxing day) we had our family friends over and at first i really wasn't looking forward to it but we got on famously and i had a great afternoon // evening. i drank far too much champagne and im going to have a awful headache tomorrow but hey, its christmas. all of us ended up watching antm and we all jumped up and down in excitement when the bitchy girl we hated got eliminated. it was the episode where all the girls get their makeovers and nigel (family friend and hairdresser) was giving us the full lowdown on everything.

ill start again with my outfit-ness and lists soon but i am just so tired i am just going to crash into bed now.

i bought this blazer during a sale at a chain store.. glassons i think, i cut off the tag so i'm not sure..i
i bought it without trying it on (silly i know) but i liked it but i wanted to change it into something better.
so i attacked it with my fabric scissors. i chopped off the arms to just below the elbow and took out the shoulderpads from the inside. i also cut bits of the lapels to give it a more destructured look. it looks a lot better now

my dearest blog.
i have not written in ages so i hope this extra long post will make up for that
on Saturday night i went to this sort of festival party thing called 'christmas in the park'
the park was utterly filled with people and the onstage entertainment was extremely tacky BUT
the whole reason anyone my age attends is to see everyone else who goes. its just what we do.
so myself and a group of my friends went and we just stayed away from the crowd and had fun.
the night definitely got better as it got darker and by the end when the fireworks came on it was rather fun

tomorrow, which is tuesday,
i am leaving to my beach house at Whangapoua in the coromandel. there is no internet and terrible mobile reception so i wont be able to post until i return. luckily i have some good friends who will be down there at the same time as me so i wont be bored at all and i will be sure to take lots of photos to put up for when im back.

tomorrow is my last day of school at saint cuthberts college.

i think im pretending to not be afraid while actually all i want is for someone to hold my hand and tell me that everything is going to be fine and that ill be okay.

right now im trying to write everyone a letter. but im failing. it seems there is so much i want to say and so much in my head yet i cannot put it down on paper.
there are some things i know i cant say and some things i shouldnt say and i wont say them.
i just. i guess im hoping for it to be like a movie.
you know the moment where the lead justs bursts into this amazing speech and. i cant do anything like that.
i dont want to be a total mess tomorrow, i want to be able to just reach into my heart and say things but i cant find the words.

but as much as im terrified im also happy. im not able to describe the happy feeling side right now but i will soon.

at the moment i have this little stinging pain in my heart like there is a needle in it.
it kind of hurts when i breathe and im having trouble getting my head around the whole thing.
its all very happy sad. but i know i will cry tomorrow and im okay with that.

i think i will end up being a right mess tomorrow. but in a good way. if that makes sense.

tomorrow is friday.
which is superfantastic and we are having a fashion show in jap tomorrow so i finally get to wear my winklepickers somewhere
and thats cool too but there a few annoying things at the moment, like - people stealing my work // originality. its lame guys, get a new hobby
- tackiness. seriously was never in, never will be. katemc understands my tackiness hate and helps me get through it, like a counsellor
- bad secrets.
- not having enough money
- running out of time and not having enough weekend
- being too far behind on gossip girl to happydance with issie
- my fathers 'gay hate' days. tonight happens to be one. he keeps on making snark comments and mocking and being really homophobic and deborah was like 'oh its so hard for them' and he just said 'well dont be gay then, easy'.
i cant stand him when my parents just act like nothing ever happened. i hate the fact that they seem to have totally 'forgotten' that i came out to them and they act like the whole thing doesn't exist. it sucks because it wasn't easy for me at all. it kind of hurts sometimes to think that ill never be able to tell them about my first girlfriend and boyfriend and all my relationships and my feelings etc because i know they couldn't and wouldn't take it.
butyeah. otherwise, things are okay.

today has been rather peculiar

by fifth period
the whole world was spinning so i had to come home.
i have been sleeping and now i feel muzzy.

this is one of my 'vintage ' outfits. The white skirt/dress is a petticoat that i have high waisted and pinned and belted with a black waistbelt. the petticoat is absolutely so poofy but amazing . deborah got it for me from a retro boutique. the bodice is italian and also from deborah. i cannot breathe in it but it looks amazing. the cardigan is my classic black one and i polished this look of with black opaques and these stunning one off white shoes of deborahs. they are amazing, ill get a photo sometimethis is a weird outtake photo from a random shoot i did when i finally finished making that yellow plushie who is wearing my wayfarers.
